Helping residents stay active and independent
Legacy Healthcare Services is a third-party vendor who provides outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy on-site at many Holiday by Atria communities. Therapists are committed to helping residents maintain the highest level of independence.
Physical therapy
Physical therapy is designed to reeducate muscles and retrain the body to compensate for physical limitations, with or without equipment.
Benefits of physical therapy may include:
- Improved strength, stability/balance and endurance for routine and complex tasks
- Reduced episodes of incontinence
- Reduced fall risk
- Reduced pain
Occupational therapy
Occupational therapy provides treatment aimed at maximizing independence by helping residents relearn how to perform daily self-care activities or discover new ways to safely accomplish these tasks.
Benefits of occupational therapy may include:
- Improved ability to manage the home – cooking, housekeeping, laundry and shopping
- Reduced impact of visual impairments
- Increased ability to better manage medications
- Enhanced perceptual and cognitive skills to encourage engagement at home and throughout the community

Speech therapy
For seniors, the ability to communicate and safely swallow foods, liquids and medications are key to an independent lifestyle. Changes due to illness or aging can occur that compromise these abilities. Speech therapy can help by increasing functional abilities and cognitive skills.
