Fitness Right at Home
Walden Place residents enjoy a variety of health and fitness activities, from weekly group exercise classes to anytime access to on-site fitness equipment.
The community offers twice-weekly balance classes, as well as a weekly chair Zoomba class. Physical therapy and occupational therapy is offered on-site through an agency. Our Resident Experience Coordinator has a degree in physical health from the University of Iowa.
Let Us Serve You
Enjoy restaurant-style dining served with courtesy and caring by our staff who know you. Chef-prepared meals are served every day in Walden Place's dining room. Sit with friends or invite your family for special occasions in our private dining room. Each meal is designed to meet the unique nutritional needs of community members.
Our chef is always open to suggestions and is happy to make dishes based on resident requests. Our residents love chili loaded potatoes, and shrimp tortellini. Our chef won the Touch of Excellence award in 2014, and each week's menu has direct resident input.
Make Memories Exploring the Surrounding Community
There's so much to explore in Iowa City, and Walden Place makes sure residents experience as much as possible. Regular outings to favorite restaurants, local events and more introduce residents to all their neighborhood has to offer and connect them to the surrounding community.
Our residents take several trips each year, including a pontoon boat ride on a nearby lake, a trip to the Riverside Casino, participating in the local Fourth of July parade, and a trip to a local apple orchard. The community explores local restaurants monthly, and residents decide on the destination as a group.
Life is Never Boring
Walden Place's comprehensive calendar is packed with both recurring activities and special events. The variety of available activities is meant to enrich the whole person by stimulating physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, creative, social or vocational wellness.
Residents tend to a raised garden on the back patio, and use herbs and vegetables in their personal cooking. Sundaes on Sunday is a favorite, as well as bean bag baseball.
Pets Make Life Better
Furry friends are welcomed as residents at Walden Place. We understand the importance of the companionship and bond that seniors share with their pets. We're delighted to have cats, dogs, birds and even bunnies as part of our community.
Residents have adopted "Samuel the Doodle" as a community mascot and dote on him daily.
Stay Connected With Technology and WiFi
Walden Place residents enjoy WiFi in the common areas, as well as two desktop computers for resident use, a Wii game device, a projector, Blu-ray player, Bluetooth speakers for activities and a Roku device. All technology is available to residents at any time.
The community also enjoys a weekly "Tech Tuesday" class where technology questions are answered. Residents also receive support from college volunteers who visit two times a month from the University of Iowa. They assist with any and all types of technology issues and concerns.
