Fort Smith, AR 72903
Experience rural independent senior living "Where the New South Meets the Old West” in historic Fort Smith, AR. Located on the rim of a residential neighborhood, Butterfield Place retirement community is adjacent to a pharmacy and an urgent care. For more serious medical treatment, Mercy Hospital is 1 mile down the road.
Historically, Fort Smith was a frontier border town right out of central casting. As the gateway to the Wild West, the town saw its share of shoot-outs—mostly between the lawless and a deputy US Marshal. The city embraces its colorful heritage and offers many opportunities to explore: Ride through town on a 1930s electric trolley. Or see the nearby Ozarks through the window of a vintage Pullman Railcar.
Butterfield Place is an award-winning, independent senior living community. Awards include the 2020 Great Place to Work certification, the 2019 Great Place to Work certification, and the 2018 SeniorAdvisor Best of Senior Living award.More + Less -

Lend a Helping Hand
Many residents find a sense of fulfillment in donating their time to a cause close to their hearts. A popular project is the crafting of fidget blankets, given to local community members struggling with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The blankets help these vulnerable seniors manage anxiety by giving them something to do with their hands.
Butterfield Place supports Alzheimer's Association, Project Compassion, and hosts school supply drives. Residents also participate in volunteer opportunities with children and teenagers.
