Last year, just as residents were sitting down to enjoy dinner, lightning struck Holiday Quail Run Estates in Agawam, Massachusetts, during a severe thunderstorm. Although the fire spread quickly, the team’s calm, practiced response meant every resident was escorted outside without injury.

Because the building needed extensive repairs, the entire community transferred within hours to nearby Holiday Bluebird Estates. Instead of settling into a hotel or makeshift shelter, Holiday Quail Run Estates residents spent the following months in another vibrant setting designed for older adults, complete with shared meals, favorite activities and friendly staff. When repairs and renovations in their community were finished, residents returned home to a warm welcome.

This story captures what emergency preparedness looks like at Holiday by Atria: putting people first, remaining steady under pressure and following a clear plan. Whether the challenge is a natural disaster or a building emergency, our communities respond quickly and thoughtfully – because nothing matters more than the well-being of the people who call Holiday home.

Experienced, equipped and always ready

Drawing on decades of experience with fires, hurricanes, floods and winter storms, Holiday has developed a thorough emergency-preparedness program that includes:

  • Backup power generators in many communities
  • Stocked reserves of food, water and essential supplies
  • Personalized “go bags” prepared for every resident
  • Coordinated transportation arrangements, including options for pets

Each plan balances safety and comfort, whether residents need to shelter in place or relocate temporarily.

Backed by a national support network

Every Holiday community benefits from the strength of our national network. Our dedicated Emergency Response Team can send extra staff, supplies and leadership to any location within days, ensuring no community faces a crisis alone. This coordinated support brings quick action and peace of mind when it matters most.

Comfort without interruption

Should evacuation become necessary, we make every effort to transport residents to a nearby sister community where they can enjoy regular meals, familiar routines and friendly company. Access to a network of communities lets us maintain continuity and comfort that hotels and shelters simply cannot match.

Your peace of mind is our priority

These layers of support – staff training, equipment, supplies and transportation agreements – reflect an ongoing commitment to readiness. Maintaining and strengthening our emergency systems is part of how we invest in the safety and well-being of everyone who lives and works in our communities.

If an emergency occurs, families receive timely updates by phone, text and email so everyone stays informed and reassured.

At Holiday, safety always comes first. From sudden storms to the unexpected, we have plans in place, experience to draw on and a heart for helping one another. When you live in a community built on connection and trust, you never face anything alone.
