Enjoy senior living surrounded by the beautiful dogwoods and magnolias at Durham Regent in Durham, NC. Located alongside a beautifully wooded residential neighborhood, this retirement community is adjacent to shopping and healthcare.

Home to Duke University, Durham is a vibrant college town that welcomes seniors with open arms. The Durham VA Hospital is just 4 miles from the independent living community, among other local points. Visit the Duke Lemur Center, the Museum of Life + Science's butterfly house. Or discover downtown Durham’s charming Brightleaf Square. Anchored by former tobacco warehouses, this gathering place is home to locally owned restaurants and shops. And as host of the Farmers Market and other community events, the area draws a wonderful mix of seniors, families and college students.

Durham Regent is an award-winning, independent senior living community. Awards include the 2020 Great Place to Work certification, the 2019 Great Place to Work certification, and the 2019 SeniorAdvisor Best of Senior Living award.

Keeping You Informed

Our commitment to helping older people live better means sharing important and timely information to help you make an informed decision to live in a Holiday community. Durham Regent operates with extensive protocols that mitigate the spreading of COVID-19.  If a resident tests positive for COVID-19, we notify residents and their designated contacts, our employees, and the local health department. In addition, the number of active cases is shared here. We are so proud of our team’s efforts and hard work to protect our community. See here for more information on our prevention and response measures.

Connection isn’t our goal. It’s our promise.

That’s why life at Holiday Retirement isn’t prescriptive, it’s personal. This is an era of opportunity to find passions that spark curiosity and people that inspire us to learn who one is. Life at Holiday Retirement isn’t about a building or amenities, it’s about the ways those simple pleasures and the people we share them with transform us every day. A meal becomes a memory. A trip to the store becomes an adventure. And a walk around the grounds becomes a tradition between friends. We are Holiday Retirement and we believe life is best lived among friends on your terms.

What are your interests?

Beauty Care Needs Met On-Site

The convenience of Durham Regent's on-site beauty salon and barber means all you have to do is walk in to get your hair and nails done. Of course, appointments are available.

Outside customers are welcome into the salon as well.

Fitness Right at Home

Durham Regent's residents enjoy a variety of health and fitness activities, from weekly group exercise classes to anytime access to on-site fitness equipment.

Leisurely strolls along the community’s paved nature trail are a popular pastime, and indoor Bocce Ball is also a favorite fun activity. Residents take advantage of on-ssite physical therapy from Legacy Rehab, and Bavada Home Health who provide OT/PT. A free membership at the nearby Orange County Senior Center also offers a multitude of wellness workshops, trainings and screenings.

Let Us Serve You

Enjoy restaurant-style dining served with courtesy and caring by our staff who know you. Chef-prepared meals are served every day in Durham Regent's dining room. Sit with friends or invite your family for a special occasion in our private dining room. Each meal is designed to meet the unique nutritional needs of community members.

Chef Michael has won several awards from Holiday and is one of the longest tenured chefs, at 26 years with Holiday. The chef is open to try new resident recipes, but you'll find Pimento cheese/shrimp n grits on the menu often since it's the favorite of many of the residents.

Make Memories Exploring the Surrounding Community

There’s so much to explore in the Durham area and Durham Regent makes sure that residents experience as much as possible. Regular outings to favorite restaurants, local events, and more introduce residents to all their neighborhood has to offer and connect them to the surrounding community.

Durham Regent schedules a weekly lunch bunch, alternating residents’ restaurant selections. DPAC, the Botanical Gardens, Fruitcake Factory, and Durham Bulls stadium are also popular destinations.

Life is Never Boring

Durham Regent’s comprehensive calendar is packed with both recurring activities and special events. The variety of available activities is meant to enrich the whole person by stimulating physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, creative, social or vocational wellness.

Enjoy spending quality time in the fireplace room, near the piano or in the library. If you have a green thumb, there is a garden club that takes care of three raised planters on premises. Hump day at Durham Regent is a very happy one with "Wine down Wednesday." Residents gather in the lounge and enjoy time together.

Pets Make Life Better

Furry friends are welcomed as residents at Durham Regent. We understand how important the companionship and bond that seniors share with their pets. We’re delighted to have cats, dogs, birds, and even bunnies as part of our community.

All the resident dogs know to stop at the front desk for a treat after their walks, or after they sit in on a game of Bingo. Look out for the two cats that go for walks, with their owners proudly pushing them along in their strollers.

Stay Connected with Technology and Wifi

Durham Regent is equipped with WiFi access to help you stay connected throughout common areas. You can use a community desktop computer to stay up to date or connect your personal devices to the WiFi.

The staff is also always available to answer questions residents may have regarding technology, or how to better use it.

Travel and Adventure is Always Available

The exclusive Travel & Stay program offers residents exciting opportunities to travel around the country, with free stays of up to seven days at any of Holiday Retirement’s more than 260 communities. Three chef-prepared meals are included with each trip. Visit all 43 states or just choose a favorite new location or two.

Lend a Helping Hand

Many residents find a sense of fulfillment in donating their time and skills to a cause close to their hearts. Some residents knit hats for the hospital and do gift bags with hats, socks, and toiletries for the homeless shelter. The community hosts a school supply drive, food drive, as well as Adopt a Family for Christmas.

We have empowered residents to become resident ambassadors. These individuals have often lived in the community for quite some time and enjoy helping new residents get acclimated to senior living. They encourage new residents to take their time settling in and them feel comfortable in their new home.
