The Community

Just like at a resort, you want to make every moment matter, and you don’t want to waste time running all over town, that’s why we offer so many exclusive amenities under one roof. And frankly, it’s just fun to have your friends and entertainment within a five-minute walk of your home.

All your wellness needs from the fitness center to the walking paths are all in one location, making staying healthy even easier.

Catch up on current events at the library or computer station. Challenge your new friends with a game of billiards, bingo, and more in the games room. Not to mention the game room can be just the ticket when accommodating younger visitors.

On-site chapels mean you can always be close to your faith. Although some shops and services differ depending on location, the convenience of Holiday services is constant.

The Social Life

One of the best things about living at Holiday is the friendships that are ready to be made.

We have a wonderful activities calendar, but you lead and design the way you spend your days. Want to go to the mall but you don't want to do it alone? One of your neighbors would surely be delighted to accompany you. Whether you’re looking for a partner for tennis or that spontaneous road trip you will find people ready to jump into that next adventure with you.

Our associates have come up with some amazing activities to participate in: dance nights, happy hours, Red Hat Societies, bowling clubs, veterans groups, jazz clubs, and so much more. And if you and your friends can’t come up with anything to do that day, then our activities director always has a great idea for something new. The activities director will also lend support to you if there’s an activity that’s just too big to plan by yourself (like that surprise birthday party!)

Travel in style with Holiday’s complimentary transport to group outings like museums and other attractions.*

People join the community because they love the opportunities for friendship and family that the free time and easy living lifestyle affords them. Just like you, everyone here wants to have fun.

Safety First

One thing is true about our community: our neighbors look after each other. But we also provide a service that goes above and beyond, and that is the Lively Mobile Plus System.

Inside the community or anywhere in the U.S. your Lively Mobile Plus device can be used to contact the professionals at Lively Mobile regarding anything from medical emergencies, directions, health concerns, or just a friendly voice to talk to. With our GPS feature, we’ll know where you are even if you don’t! And it’s all available 24/7 at the touch of a button.

Rest assured when you leave your car at home, you can trust it’s always safe and protected. But if you just don’t feel like driving, transportation is provided by Holiday for errands, doctor’s appointments and even scheduled trips to area attractions, whenever you just want to get out and about.*

How Much Does Independent Retirement Communities Cost?

Nobody likes to talk about money, but it’s a reality that living in our communities doesn't come free. Today’s seniors are living longer with healthier lifestyles and better preventive care, which is a huge positive for their quality of life. However, the cost of living increases every year; groceries, fuel, health care, and utilities stretch a fixed income. Holiday’s all-inclusive lifestyle that consolidates the majority of your regular expenses into one steady, affordable amount not only simplifies your expenses, but can save you money each month.

Independent senior living costs can range anywhere from $2,800 to $4,200 or per month. It’s important to assess all your sources of income and to choose a senior living community that’s affordable so you can enjoy your life, the way you want to.

Licensed insurance agent and elder care lawyer Patrick Simasco emphasizes that families find a senior living option that’s affordable. “Don’t go out and get the Rolls Royce of assisted living because you feel guilty,” says Simasco. There is no need to “spend $6,000 a month when you only need to spend $3,500.” The monthly average cost for assisted living is just more than $4,300, although prices vary widely across the country, according to the Genworth 2020 Annual Cost of Care Study.

One area to explore is whether you purchased insurance to cover long-term care. Simasco gives a special nod to life insurance policies with long-term care riders. Unlike standalone long-term insurance policies, “if you don’t use it [for long-term care], you won’t lose it,” he says.

Is Independent Senior Housing the Right Fit?

So with everything you’ve read, you can now start to put the pieces together to see if joining one of our Independent Senior Living communities is the right fit for you. Here are a few considerations to help you weigh the pros and cons of joining our Holiday Retirement family:

  • Privacy is important, but you also like the option to socialize with your neighbors and community right outside your door without the need to drive anywhere.

  • You appreciate the idea of letting others take care of the chores like groceries, cooking and housekeeping so you can focus on enjoying your life.

  • You appreciate the idea of writing just one check per month to pay for rent, meals, utilities, maintenance, transportation and activities.

  • You have a car and appreciate the option to either drive yourself or take our complimentary transportation for errands, appointments, shopping or events.

  • You don’t need help with personal care activities like bathing, dressing, and taking medications.

  • You appreciate the peace of mind when it comes to your safety with the simple push of a button whether you’re at home or anywhere in the country from coast to coast. Emergencies, severe weather or directions to your destination are always available 24/7.

Beyond these considerations, you want to think about your ‘non-negotiables.’ Those top items that are most important to you that you must have in your Independent Senior Living community. Gerontologist Jennifer Fitzpatrick, author of Cruising Through Caregiving: Reducing The Stress Of Caring For Your Loved One, advises seniors to narrow down the choices by listing three non-negotiable services or features they must have. For some, gourmet food is a top priority, for others, it’s living with residents of the same faith, while others want a community with a similar activity level as they have.

So what are your three non-negotiables?  Write them down along with your thoughts on the considerations above.

The Flexibility to Customize Your Care

One big aspect of Independent Senior Living is the flexibility it affords your lifestyle. The same is true with your personal care and medical assistance choices as your needs change. Holiday Retirement gives you the flexibility to choose your third party health care and personal care providers ala carte. Many of these providers have offices right inside the community. These are the same or similar services you would receive in an Assisted Living community, but you have the independence to choose your own providers without giving up any independence.

Other Senior Living Options

In addition to independent living, there are a variety of senior living options available, all offering a different level of care. Below is a brief overview of a few:

Memory Care

Alzheimer’s and memory care facilities offer specialized care and programs for individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or other memory loss. Alzheimer’s/memory care options may operate as stand-alone facilities or as separate wings in an assisted living community. They provide a safe and physically secured environment.

CCRCs (Continuing Care Retirement Communities) offer multiple levels of care in one location, ranging from independent retirement living to assisted living and nursing home services. CCRCs are ownership-style senior communities that typically require a down payment, long-term contract, and monthly fees. AARP pegs the average down payment on a CCRC retirement community at around $329,000, but reports some are as high as $1 million.

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities are suited for seniors who need some extra help with activities like managing medication, bathing, and dressing. Residents have access to community rooms and planned activities. Assisted living facilities don’t provide as much medical care and personal assistance as nursing homes.

Nursing Home

Nursing homes provide 24-hour skilled care for seniors on a short or long-term basis or for rehabilitation assistance. Nursing homes provide the highest level of care of the senior living options and are ideal for people who can’t care for themselves but don’t require hospitalization.
